5 Reasons Your Car Won’t Start

We can all agree that a car that won’t start up can be pretty infuriating, especially during busy days when you’re in a rush and cannot afford to be late. This can occur wherever you go, whether you’re out for groceries, getting back from work, or simply stopping to get yourself a quick snack.

It can be inconvenient, but you can avoid it by practicing simple habits to ensure this incident won’t happen again. But before proceeding to do so, you must be able to identify the causes that prevent your car from starting up.

While some issues can be simple and easily fixable, others could be symptoms of more significant underlying concern. And by correctly diagnosing the car’s status and determining its faults, you should be able to work out the reason behind the start-up failure.

Keep in mind that if your vehicle has been constantly failing to start and you’re planning on selling it someday, you can have a free used car valuation in Dubai.

1. Low or No Fuel

Lack of fuel ranks high, with it being one of the most common reasons the car won’t start. Many experts recommend you check your power every time you go out for a drive and stay away from driving with low fumes to avoid running out and harming the engine.

If you recently filled it up and are still facing fuel problems, there might be a problem with the fuel pump or the whole fuel system.

Luckily, many companies could assist you with refueling your vehicle wherever you are in case you’re out of fuel and stuck somewhere distant with no gas stations nearby.

2. Flat or Dead Battery

A faulty battery is the main reason why the car wouldn’t start. Many causes lead to a dead battery, including freezing weather, leaving the lights on for extended periods, not using the vehicle for a long time, and loose wires. Sometimes, the reason could be the battery itself.

Thankfully, this issue is resolved by jump-starting your car. Using some jumper cables and the help of a working vehicle, you can successfully jump your car battery and make it function again. Although this is only a temporary fix, it requires a mechanic to fix it. It gives you enough time to transport the car to the mechanic or somewhere safe.

3. Faulty Starter Motor

The starter motor‘s job is to send an electrical current that activates the engine. And by failing to do so, the engine won’t start. If you hear clicking whenever you try igniting the engine, and the lights turn on, but nothing else seems to be working, then the starter motor’s at fault here.

Another symptom of a broken starter motor is a loud noise when starting the car. In this case, a new engine is required to light up the battery.

4. Damaged Ignition Switch

If the engine won‘t start after multiple attempts of switching the car on, but the lights activate instead, then the battery is not to blame. The battery is responsible for activating the dashboard and headlights, which means that the ignition switch is the culprit.

There are many signs that indicate a damaged switch, including difficulty turning the key, not hearing the starter motor running, electrical issues, and flickering lights.

5. Bad Timing Belt

A broken timing belt can be pretty cruel towards your car, and many warning signs could alert you of a possible error in the timing belt, including stalling and rough idling, misfiring, oil pressure drops, and smoke.

If you stumbled upon these symptoms before your car stopped working, there is a big chance that the timing belt caused severe damage to the car’s components and prevented it from working altogether. In this case, a trip to the mechanic is necessary.
