Ben Stokes Takes Break from Cricket to Focus on Mental Health

Cricket can be a challenging sport as it requires a lot of hard work, training and dedication. Along with that, Covid-19 have taken a toll on many cricketer’s health and mental well-being.

Many crickets are finding it difficult to deal with the bio bubble restrictions as well as train and perform at the same time. Because of this reason, many well-known players are taking a break from cricket.

As per our cricket fresh news, one such player who has recently announced a break is Ben Stokes. He issued an official statement in which he mentions the break. He has not given any definite timeline for the break period.

Ben Stokes is taking a break from cricket to focus on his mental well-being. He is not going to play in the home Test series, which is going to take place on 4th August.

Who Is Ben Stokes?

His full name is Benjamin Andrew Stokes. He is a 30 years old all-rounder international cricket player known for his excellent performance in IPL. He plays for the English Cricket team. In the year 2019, they won the cricket World Cup. He was titled as the man of the match.

Ben is a left-handed batsman and right-arm bowler. In the year 2017, he became the highest-paid cricketer. He earned $2.1 million in the same year. Apart from that, he was also the most valued player.

He was born in New Zealand but later moved to England. His father was a rugby player and coach. He started playing professional cricket in 2009. At that time, he played domestic cricket. After playing under 19 cricket for few years, he went to play first-class cricket. In the year 2017, he became vice-captain.

IPL Career:

Ben Stokes gained immense popularity from IPL. He joined IPL in 2017. At that time, he played for Rising Pune Supergiants. He was auctioned for £1.7 million. He became a man of the match three times in that team.

After playing with the team for a year, he went to play with Rajasthan Royals. He was the most expensive IPL player that year. In 2020, he became the first player to score 100 runs in IPL. However, in 2021 IPL, he suffered a finger injury. He played only one match in the League and will not join the second phase of IPL.

Reason for Taking Break:

As per the statement given by England Cricket Board, Ben Stokes is taking a break because of the finger injury he suffered in IPL. He needs to rest his finger to let it heal properly. The injury is on his left-hand finger, and being a left-handed batsman, he can’t do much about it.

He was on a break after the injury but returned early in the month of July to play cricket again. However, as the finger is not healed properly, he needs to take a break.

Another reason for the break is mental well-being. Staying inside the bio bubble for months is pretty stressful, and Ben is not ready for the stress that comes with it. Currently, he wants to stay with his family and focus on his mental and physical health.
